First time eating here, visited on a Wednesday afternoon was seated right away. Dress code is very casual, staff wear T-shirts. Received drinks in 10 minutes food within 25 minutes. Wife enjoyed her plate of noodles and vegetables. I tried it, didn't care for it but I'm not a fan of vegetable stirfry. She had no complaints and took some home for dinner later. I had the seafood boil done in the house seasoning, which is a mixture of their three spices and chose heat level medium. It was so freaking awesome! The picture I took does no justice to the amount of food you get. There was a ton of fresh minced garlic in the sauce, which was thicker and much better than I expected. The meat in the alligator bites was the size of the eraser end of a pencil and only tasted the breading. I would've preferred larger pieces instead of a bunch of tiny ones. Overall, I really enjoyed the seafood boil and would probably order the same thing again, I definitely recommend. Cheers!

Ok, I'm just like you. When I'm dining out in a new area, I'm not expecting to find hidden secrets on my first go around. But, I really don't want to be disappointed as well. I read all the reviews of Pier 17 and thought it was worth a try. Let me say: oh, yeah, it definitely is! Being from up north, I don't get seafood boils but once in a blue moon, and this is only when a friend from Mississippi decides to use his grandma's recipe that's been a family secret. I showed up as a single diner on a Sunday nite and (a) they made me feel very welcome, and (b) the boil was outstanding! Came out of the kitchen in a steam filled bag that made me think I had my own chef in the back making sure that if I couldn't eat in the kitchen that the kitchen would come to my table. Their house special sauce is an amazing combination of wonderfulness - the perfect spice level. And, you get to decide on mild, medium, hot, and extra hot...I chose medium thanks to the wait staff's recommendation. Glad I did. If you are looking for unpretentious good eats, I definitely recommend Pier 17. Ps. The local IPA was a perfect pairing.

Amazing, fantastic and a must go. The food here is some of the best around. Service by Zee was amazing. The restaurant's atmosphere is decked out in an oriental/seafood motif. Spring rolls are great, Mongolian Beef with homemade noodles were fantastic. Just the right amount of spice. Old Golden Coral that had major improvements. Prices are reasonable $25. Person for lots of food and 2 drinks Ps if at the Hampton Inn, walk across the bridge. Gung po chicken excellent. Spouse had fried scallops with hush puppies, "Both items best I have ever had". Trying their Volcano HIBACHI PLACE NEXT. Sorry no pictures.

Great food at this unusual place of part "Shellfish boil", part Asian, part Southern barbecue. I always get the Crab Leg and Shrimp combo, which comes in a steamed bag of deliciousness, with choice of sauce and heat level. Try the House Special sauce, which is a mix of all the 3 sauces: Lemon Pepper, Garlic Butter, and Cajun. OMG to die for! There's actually MEAT inside each crab leg, perfectly steamed so they're almost all easy to remove from the shells. The one red potato that comes with the combo is very large, so you can cut it up and slather it in the sauce. Mmm-MM! (Yes, all served with bibs, gloves, crackers, and waste buckets. ) I've not tried other menu items, but it's always busy with folks enjoying all kinds of things from fried fish sandwiches and shrimp baskets, to Chinese fried rice, to the shellfish dishes. Please quell your curiosity and check it out! There are similar concept restaurants all over Hampton Roads with different ownership and names. Ex) Near Lynnhaven Mall is the Crazy Crab (or something like that), and in Norfolk near Janaf is Boil Bay Seafood.
